About the Artist：

Born in 1984, Cui Xu received his Bachelor’s Degree from the Sculpture Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2008, and his Master’s Degree from the Sculpture Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2012. Currently, he is a professional teacher in the Product Design Department of the School of Design and Art at Chongqing Jiaotong University, a member of the Chongqing Creative Designers Association, and a member of Chongqing Sculpture Society. Cui Xu’s works have been exhibited in Chongqing, Shanghai, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. 2022 “Traces of Emotions”, Jinser Gallery, Chongqing; 2020 “Unlocking Another Imagination of Wood”, Original Art Museum, Chongqing; 2019 “Elegant Rituals”, Allonge Café, Shanghai.

Wood is the most common element in nature, and it is also the source of artist Cui Xu’s creation. He uses wood to display his ideas, realizing his desire to“Go beyond the screen, break through the picture, and enter the scene”. Breaking the daily routine, the tiny fow of grain is gradually detached from the rhythm and tempo formed by the object itself in the continuous repetition, allowing wood to be translated and reinterpreted in diferent contexts.

Artist Cui Xu hopes to change graphic design from an intermediary state to art itself, establishing a special emotional connection between people and wood, between people and people, which is both introverted and powerful – an emotion internalized by the viewer and a declaration to the outside world.
