27° Angle – The First East Lake International Ecological Sculpture Biennale
The first East Lake International Ecological Sculpture Biennale, themed “27° Angle”, was held on December 17, 2017, at the Celebrity Culture Park in the Jiufeng Forest Reserve of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Zone. The theme emphasized the perspective of sculptures, aiming to promote artistic change and re-examine the relationship between art, nature and ecology. It advocated that artists should respect nature and engage in eco-friendly and low-carbon art practices, bringing art and nature closer together as friends.
The exhibition attracted 897 artwork submissions from artists in 22 countries and regions. Ultimately, 92 outstanding artworks by artists from both China and abroad were displayed, including masterpieces by internationally renowned sculptors such as Jaume Plensa, Ralfonso, Yue Minjun, Zhu Ming, Zhan Wang, Fang Lijun, Lin Gang, Chen Wenling, Sui Jianguo, Jing Yumin, and Matsuo Mitsunobu. In addition to traditional sculpting techniques, the exhibition featured various forms of art, including land art, performance art, installation art, ready-made art, and dynamic art. By using locally sourced, eco-friendly, and renewable materials, the exhibition successfully pioneered China’s first ecological sculpture showcase, establishing its cutting-edge, academic, non-profit, and international orientation and curatorial philosophy.
