Chu Tat Shing was born in Wuhan, Hubei Province in 1942, graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in 1965 and stayed there to teach, and graduated from the postgraduate programme of the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. He was the director of the Sculpture Department of the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the China Artists Association, and settled in Hong Kong in 1984. 2003, he became the chairman of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Artists Association, established the Sculpture Society, and promoted sculpture exchanges between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and was awarded the Purple and Gold Medal of Honour by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2007.
