About the Artist:
Born in Jiangsu in 1920, Chu Teh-Chun is known for his abstract oil paintings of dramatic tension and imaginative landscapes. Chu moved to Hong Kong in 1946 and then to France in 1952. His sojourn in France in 1952 provided a fertile ground for creativity, resulting in grandiose atmospheres that are deep, poetic and masculine. His works interpret his thoughts and feelings by depicting the harmony between man and nature, combining traditional Chinese painting with Western abstract art in a unique style that breaks the boundaries between the real and the unreal in a subtle fusion of painting, music and poetry. He was elected Life Academician of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 1997, the first French artist of Chinese descent to receive this honour.
