Beuys in Wuhan marks the first showcase of the works of Joseph Beuys, a pioneer of 20th-century contemporary art, in the central region of China. It features four main sections: “Everyone is an Artist”, “Expanded Concept of Art”, “Social Sculpture”, and “Fluxus and Happenings”. The exhibition includes nearly 300 works, including paintings, photographs, installations, and videos, demonstrating Beuys’s diverse artistic styles and extraordinary creativity.
Centered around the concept “Everyone is an Artist”, the exhibition establishes the “Everyone is an Artist Academy” and offers various interactive activities using recycled materials. The opening ceremony featured artist Lin Gang, who collected waste concrete and created artwork on-site in dialogue with Beuys’s spirit. Each participant’s creative contribution forms part of the exhibition, inviting visitors to explore the relationship between art and the individual while experiencing Beuys’s spirit and the significance of his work.
