Wu Xinmin was born in Fujian in 1987 and now lives and works in Xiamen and Shanghai. She graduated from Xiamen Academy of Arts and Crafts, Fuzhou University, with a master’s degree in art and design. Her painting practice is rooted in painting itself, juxtaposing growth and decay. Through painting, she depicts a plurality of physicality. Attempting to penetrate representation from an aesthetic perspective, the artist submerges her thoughts and emotions into the brush. The flowers under her brush are spreading along the flesh of the branches, nourished by light and color, deepening the toughness of the root and leaf veins. It is also the repetitive overlapping of large petals, the blooming mandala blossoming from the center of the canvas with a vibrating life.
Artist’s Statement
Flowers, as my chosen artistic language and symbols, form the cornerstone of my art world. Most of the time I am immersed in my paintings, and sometimes I get caught up in all kinds of affairs that may affect the progress of my creation. However, art is inseparable from life. When I savor the tastes of life, what is boasted in it is sorrow and the shadow of emptiness. I am also able to experience the passage of time by quietly observing the objects.
