An Wei, Chinese name 吕安伟 (lǚ ān wěi). Growing up under the dual cultural influences of Spain and China, he perceives painting as an extension that transcends the canvas; within this extension, viewers are invited to engage as participants in these scenes they observe, creating immersive environments and experiences through his painting installations.
The concepts articulated in his works reconstruct everyday memories and realities in fragmented forms to build personal identity and cultural recognition. This reconstruction is a subjective product that reveals the artist’s personal reflections on the surrounding world. His imagery often evolves from nothingness, unfolding and twisting from foundational elements and pillars, leading to the beginnings of various narratives. Elements received from the external world are reassembled and imbued with new meanings, re-establishing the connection between individuals and their cultural root, thus opening up new possibilities for viewers’ relationships with existing spaces.
