During his time in China, Lv Zhongyuan studied at the former Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Wu Guanzhong and Zhang Ding. In the late 1980s, he went to Japan, Europe, and the United States for further studies. During his more than ten years of overseas travel, he was deeply influenced by the Eastern Mountain Kuiyi and Jiashan Yuzhuang. It is not difficult to see from his works that they are nourished by various aspects, possessing both the inherent visual tension of Western oil painting and a unique “cosmic consciousness” (observation of “Dao”) and “Zen philosophy” (understanding of “Zen meaning” and “Zen realm”) of Eastern art.
